During the floods in Mozambique in January, families farming along the Shingwedzi and Limpopo rivers lost far more than their homes and stored food. They also lost their crops, placing this year’s harvest at risk.

When the government declared a state of emergency and called for aid, Limpopo National Park, working with the National Administration for Conservation Areas (ANAC), Peace Parks Foundation and partners, mobilised rapidly. Emergency food support was delivered to isolated communities as a priority. To help farmers replant within a limited planting window, seeds were urgently procured.

But a renewed flood event cut off access just as the seed packs were ready for distribution. With time running out for planting, delays were not an option. Watch how the park teams worked alongside local communities to navigate rising waters and deliver essential supplies.

More than 26,000 kg of seeds have now been distributed to almost 7,400 families in 65 villages. Another 11,700 kg will be distributed when the remaining villages become accessible.
