Conservation thrives when communities are resilient. In Maputo National Park, Mozambique, local committees are learning how to prepare for extreme weather events. It’s an important step in helping communities adapt to climate change.

In this PeaceParks.TV episode, we explore how disaster risk management training is equipping people to stay alert and respond effectively, protecting lives and nature. From early warning systems to preparedness kits – each containing two mobile phones, a radio for communications and weather information, and protective clothing – these initiatives  strengthen community resilience and ensure that people remain active partners.

“We want every Mozambican to understand disaster risk management,” says Geraldo Miguelito, Head of Department at the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management. “This is the challenge the government faces and we’d like to see even more partners supporting this kind of initiative.”

The training was led by the Mozambique government’s National Administration for Conservation Areas in collaboration with Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), Associação do Meio Ambiente (AMA), Livaningo, Centro Terra Viva and Peace Parks Foundation, with generous funding from Blue Action Fund.
