Children are witnessing change for good as their schools receive new classrooms, teacher houses, an administrative block, proper sanitation and running water.

Madjedjane and Matchia primary schools are being transformed, promising children a safer, more focused learning environment.

For years, lessons often took place outside.

“It has not been easy teaching outdoors,” says Sofia Francisco Chaia, a teacher at Madjedjane. “When a car or person passes by the children turn their attention to these distractions instead of the lesson. We commend this initiative and the support it provides.”

Now, the schools are beginning to look less like makeshift classrooms and more like learning hubs full of possibility. These improvements are a powerful investment in the future, one that nurtures young minds while strengthening the relationship between people and the nearby park.

“We can see the changes happening. I feel like the community will now respect the school because they will see that it is truly growing,” says Marta Jobicel, Director of Madjedjane Primary School.

The upgrades form part of Mozambique’s National Administration for Conservation Areas’ (ANAC) commitment to communities around the park, and were made possible with the support of TotalEnergies.

Maputo National Park is co-managed by ANAC and Peace Parks Foundation.
