Some rare and fascinating creatures are expected to be discovered in Mozambique in a series of quick biodiversity surveys, known as BioBlitzes, currently underway across nine sites in LimpopoBanhine and Zinave national parks. The surveys will show what species live in these areas, including those less commonly observed.

Watch this PeaceParks.TV episode to find out how the survey works and catch on-the-ground glimpses of some of the creatures already spotted so far.

While not every creature residing in these areas is expected to be captured, the scientists, nature experts and volunteers involved will create a snapshot of the resident species and record these to inform future research efforts.

Part of the Restoring African Rangelands Project, the surveys are generously funded by Global Affairs Canada and led by Conservation International and Conservation South Africa in partnership with Mozambique’s National Administration for Conservation Areas and the Maputo Natural History Museum. The project is being undertaken by Endangered Wildlife Trust in collaboration with Peace Parks Foundation. Watch this PeaceParks.TV episode to learn more.
