Healthy coastal ecosystems help protect biodiversity, strengthen resilience to climate change and support the livelihoods of coastal communities.

In Maputo National Park, partners are restoring these natural systems along the Maputo Bay coastline by removing invasive species and reintroducing indigenous vegetation to degraded dune areas.

What began as a 400 m² pilot at Ponta do Ouro has expanded into a one-hectare restoration programme. As native vegetation returns, it is restoring ecological function, strengthening natural coastal defences and creating sustainable employment for local communities.
