In this Peace Parks TV episode, we catch up on crucial improvements that have taken place in Limpopo National Park, making life easier and more enjoyable for the park’s management teams and visitors.
Efforts to tackle the challenge of upgrading the roads have paid off, making it easier for people to travel through the park. Additional upgrades to the self-catering camp located next to Massingir Dam will significantly improve the experience for those staying in this stunning area.
In alignment with signage standards across Mozambique’s parks, new signs designed by Peace Parks have been installed. Now, whether exploring Maputo, Banhine or Zinave national parks, a consistent navigation experience can be enjoyed.
A notable stride in the park’s evolution, through the uptake of conservation technology, is its strategic partnership with EarthRanger. This is sophisticated software, which empowers the park to monitor vehicles, rangers on patrol, and animal movements efficiently, and integrates the data on a centralised platform. With this bigger park picture now coming into view, appropriate management and rapid responses can be better facilitated, taking counter-poaching measures and conservation planning to the next level.
To increasingly implement EarthRanger across the park, the network of communication towers was recently expanded, significantly improving situational awareness for teams as they’re able to collect crucial data from a greater area.
Working with Mozambique’s National Administration for Conservation Areas and expert partners, and with the support of funders and donors, Limpopo National Park is on an important development journey. These collective improvements mark its next transformative chapter, enabling better accessibility and more advanced operational capabilities.
